Through a Sober Lens and Poetic Images: Heart of Martha’s Vineyard

Book Cover: Through a Sober Lens: A Photographer’s Journey

Through a Sober Lens: A Photographer's Journey combines 43 photographs with personal stories tracing Michael Blanchard’s journey from addiction, multiple drunk-driving arrests, and a suicide attempt to recovery, hope, and a life devoted to helping others. Named the “Ansel Adams of Recovery Photography” by Recovery Today magazine, Blanchard invites readers to discover that beauty, gratitude, and purpose can emerge from life’s darkest moments. Whether in recovery or simply facing life’s challenges, these stories encourage readers to slow down, notice the beauty that surrounds them, and discover hope even during life’s most difficult seasons.

Poetic Images: Heart of the Vineyard is a collaboration between poet Robert DiCarlo and photographer Michael Blanchard. Inspired by Michael’s photographs of Martha’s Vineyard, Bob selected images that spoke to him and wrote original poems to accompany each one. Together, the photographs and poetry celebrate the Island’s landscapes, seasons, and spirit, inviting readers to experience the Vineyard through both visual beauty and the power of the written word.
