Joe Alves: Designing JAWS

Author Dennis L. Prince takes you on the deepest dive ever into the genesis and development of 1975's JAWS, as experienced by Oscar-nominated Production Designer, Joe Alves. In this handsome hardcover volume, Prince leads you through every detail of Alves' production design, from illustrating the stunning shark action of Peter Benchley's then-unpublished novel through location scouting and his "accidental" discovery of Martha's Vineyard and into the collaboration with young director Steven Spielberg and Hollywood effects legend Robert Mattey to design and deliver a 25-foot practical Great White Shark. This heavily illustrated coffee table book reveals rare artwork, handwritten pre-production notes, location photos, plus the complete collection of Alves' storyboard illustrations. The foreword is written by special effects master and genre director, Greg Nicotero.

Prince has also authored Joe Alves' full biography, Joe Alves: Adventures in Film Design, also available at this book-signing event. Prince currently lives in California.
